oil through air box, advice before starting

ok so my off left the bike upside down and oil comming out of the air box what do i need to do before starting (apart from the obvious eg top up oil and change air filter)

clean it out with a rag and top it up.

im sure i heard something about the oil been on top of the piston or somthing so pull the plugs and crank the engine before trying to start it ?? not sure thought but heard something along those lines
