KDX200 non runner.
Hi,
I have just got my hands on K reg Kawasaki KDX 200 (2 stroke) for some off road fun! Problem is I cant get the thing going. Here is a list of what i have done so far, any help or advice would be appreciated. Fresh Fuel Cleaned carb and jets (Keinin PWK carb) checked plug and electrics (strong spark and plenty of compression) and now im stuck Standard carb setting would be nice, at the moment ive got the idle mixture scre 1 1/2 turns out. It has fired a couple of times but dies out almost straight away and every other time doesnt even give a sign of going?! Any ideas?!!? |
Re: KDX200 non runner.
Also, the plug is wet with fuel when i take it out so im guessing there is fuel getting through, maybe too much or spark not strong enough??

Re: KDX200 non runner.
Hold throttle wide open, take plug out and boot it over with ignition off, clear all fuel out of it. (it won't draw fuel at full throttle).
Then try again, you got choke on? |
Re: KDX200 non runner.
ah good shout, ill give that a go. Ye choke is on, is it worth trying without or will that just not work?!?
(only ever had FI bikes!) |
Re: KDX200 non runner.
Bah, heathens, spoilt with your EFI.
Try it without, just gives it less rich mixture, sounds like you flooded it. |
Re: KDX200 non runner.
Ha ye i know i know! right then will get on with that one tomorrow then!
cheers mate |
Re: KDX200 non runner.
Did it start then? was it running before you bought it?
|
Re: KDX200 non runner.
Basically it ran fine about a year ago, then cut out, I think due to a clogged carb, then sat in a garage for a year and not been able to get it going since.
Not tried the yorkies tips yet, will be trying later tonight |
Re: KDX200 non runner.
okay so it was not running when you bought it so not something you may have done.
2 strokes are funny things but usually simple to start. There are a few things that may cuase starting issues : low compression - you said you checked this, I would expect about 125psi on a tester? Blown crankseal knackered reed petals timing out - if same as my old KX the magneto sits on an adjustable plate, check that the plate is in the correct position and that all 3 screws are tight, have had these vibrate loose and the plate reset to a rest position while out riding, long walk back only to figure out what happened at home Duff spark plug - Might look fine but may not perform at all when under load. Get new one just for piece of mind. |
Re: KDX200 non runner.
The KDX was an enduro weapon in its time :)
As said above, 2 strokes can be funny things if stood for a while. You said that you put fresh fuel in it, but have you put decent 2t oil in it and the proper mix too? |
