Idle problem after fitting tank spacers.

Hi .org!

after i decided to make my own tank spacers i fitted them and the bike now feels lovely, downside is that now the bike doesnt idle properly, almost like its doing the ol wet spark plug misfire. its fine whilst im riding and also when i stop, but give it a min or so and it goes to its annoying ways.

could it be where i lifted the front of the tank, little nasty dirt bits are getting to the engine?

would a inline fuel filter stop the problem?

thanks for your help

Re: Running issues after raising the tank

very unlikely to be anything to do with the tank risers, did you disturb anything else whilst doing the job* ?

Do the basics, a general check of all hoses and alike, check out the fuel condition (water in the tank etc) and balance the throttle bodies, before looking for anything more complicated than that.

* one thing to check is that the additional space allows the foam from the underside of the tank to "fold down" and occlude the air intake a bit.

Cheers Mark

thanks for replying quick mark, i just took a look for that foam and nothing there, as for water in the tank i wouldnt even know where to start to check that, ill have to search the forum abit. as for the throttle bodies i wanted to have that done a while ago, but it seems weird how ive raised the front of the tank and a couple of days later the bike is playing up.

ive red x'd the bike today and put some of that super dooper esso premium fuel in. seems to run a wee bit better. but the backfires are bigger :D (not that im complaining)

i would never use red X but any way i had no problems with raising the tank on my 03

only thing i had problem with the idle was with my renthal bars pulling the throttle cable, re routed it and all was fine

Re: Running issues after raising the tank

the OP never said anything about changing bars, so I presume that isn't it.

easy check, remove the spacers and see if the problem goes away :smt102.

Cheers Mark.

i know he didn't was more of a reference about the throttle cable's could be causing the problem as they run down just below where the spacers go maybe they have been knocked and trapped some how

Did you remove the air box?

You may have left off a hose on the MAP sensor or forgot to put some wires back.
