Dead Battery
I woke this morning to find my battery dead.
I have an 06(K6) Sv 650S. I have Heated Bargrips fitted but they were not left on over night. My battery is dead I think. The fuel system starts up and the Lights work, but it konks out dead when I try to start it |
Re: Dead Battery
I don't suppose that you keep it on 24hr charge by any chance. Invest in a bike specific charger and just hook it up all the time you're not riding. You might be able to recover the battery this time by the sound of things.

Re: Dead Battery
Does sound like the battery. Do your lights dim when you try to start? I mean really dim, so you only get a dull glow from the headlight? If so, it backs up the dead battery theory. They don't live as long as car batteries.
As IP suggests, a charger might bring it back to life. |
Re: Dead Battery
It's not in gear is it? ;)

Re: Dead Battery
Cuould be, in gear, or sidestand or clutch switch failure, the lights etc would dim and go out if it was the battery not cut out dead.

Re: Dead Battery
I used a trickle charger from Halfords, was £13 I think, and kept it plugged in when not using it.

Re: Dead Battery
got a charger you can borrow if required.

Re: Dead Battery
Coincidently I have had the same problem with my battery.
Bike is a 03 plate 650S with a one year old battery. Battery was connected up to the Optimate from Nov last year til beginning of April. I have been out and about on it numerous times including a 250 mile trip. Last Thursday it wouldnt even kick over and lights plus dash disappeared. Tried it again today after charging since Thursday & its still the same!!!!!!!!! Havent tested it with a multi-meter yet though. Sounds daft I know but exactly how do you bumpstart your bike as I tried this last year and got nowhere. Thanks. Stu |
Re: Dead Battery
Same way as a car as far as I know, never had to do it myself. In gear 1st or 2nd, clutch in, ignition on, immobiliser off, get someone to push you till your at running speed, let the clutch out slowly and give a wee bit of gas. Make sure the immobiliser is off though, a bloke from work spent 20 minutes being pushed round the car park before he realised!
