Race Prepping An SV and Rider
Right, going to live up to my signature now. Death by questions for you lot i'm afraid.
I'm hoping this thread could be stickied as it gets a bit of a discussion going as i know there are a few people out there wanting to get into racing... Ok, so i've got a bike sorted. I've read a few rules and regs to see what can and can't be done to a bike as well as what is essential. Is it just the oil filter and oil drain plug that need to be lock wired? http://www.minitwinracing.co.uk/rules.html Not sure how accurate they are,, But where would you guys suggest getting a fairing and tail unit from in order to fill the holes left by the lights? What is the minimum i could get away with in order to make a K2 race legal? Will the standard after market lowers be allowed or do i need special lowers with an oil catcher? Last thing for now... Regarding raising the seat height what methods are out there. I've read about Fireblade sub frames etc? Any pointers are very welcome and anything else you think us budding racers should know would be great to. Thanks all. :) |

Re: Race Prepping An SV and Rider
Jeez, this is such a big subject. We could be typing all night. Just got back from Anglesey racing today. Give me a day to muster up some enthusiasm and I'll get some notes down. There are some pretty good write-ups already in the minitwins section, take a read through.
Awesome day to day by the way :-) |

Re: Race Prepping An SV and Rider
Binky have a look at Thundersport too they have a minitwin class which race in the GP2 class. They use the same regs, I have spoken to a few of them and they seem friendly and quite happy to tell you what they have done to their bikes.

Re: Race Prepping An SV and Rider
I been looking into this myself, Thundersport is the way I was thinking of going, but, depends on what happens with Suzi. If I can keep her I will go min-twin racing, if not I might get one of those 450cc Aprillia things, they look cool

Re: Race Prepping An SV and Rider
I would suggest going along to a Minitwin meeting and having a good nose around the paddock. Most racers are only to willing to tell you about their bikes and you'll be able to see the various ways of sorting certain things out and take pictures/make notes of what you like.

Yep, heading over to a race meet is next on the list.
In the mean time i'm just reading and searching for as much information as i can. A licence is also on the immediate to do list, but am a little confused as to where to go, what to say and what to fill in ATM. |
