Adjusting chain

Hi i have got an 03 sv650 which i bought privately yesterday, it needs a full service etc but i need to use it for the next few days before its booked in for service.

I desperately need to adjust the chain as its slacker that a ball bag!!!

Can i do it without the torque wrench?? I do have one but im away from home so i just have access to normal wrench.

If it is ok what tightness would you recommend?? e.g. hand tightness or stand on the wrench?? (ive never done it without a torque wrench before)

Yes, noraml socket wrench should be fine. Just go hand tight with a bit of body weight behind it from above, no need to stand on it if you get what I mean, but a bit tighter than what you'd noamally do else where on a bike.

Enjoy the new bike.

+1 for both comments!
Follow Tim's directions, he's spot on when you're using a normal wrench.
And also enjoy the bike :)

got one with the bike when i bought it. Worth its weight in naked virgins!

Re: Adjusting chain

You don't get many naked virgins for the weight of a haynes.

Unless they're malnourished babies...

I once got a couple of clothed virgins in exchange for a Haynes manual, but not naked :(, seems I got duped.

IIRC the K3 rear wheel spindle is 100Nm (curvey is 65Nm).

A useful guide, if you weigh around 80Kg (typical) that's 800N more or less, so half your weight (400N) on a typical wrench which is 250mm long (10") is about right. That's certainly a near enough guide for car wheel nuts when stuck at the side of a dark wet road with a flat.
