Touching up paintwork, advice pls.
 

My new bike has been dropped at some point and on the lower fairing there are a couple of spots (postage stamp size) that have been repainted in the wrong shade, barely noticeable, but it'll annoy the hell out of me so i need to sort it.

Whats the best way to do it?

Someone suggested wet n dry to remove the wrong paint then aerosol the new colour, but im not sure thats right, surely it'll need priming?

Ive never touched paintwork before but really cant go down the route of spraying the entire lower fairing, suggestions as to the est way forward please...

call a scratch'n'dent specialist (they dont charge the earth). worth every penny. touching up paintwork is a tricky business and the majority of peeps end up making it worse.

i agree with the above. if you dont know what your doing and its bugging you already get a chips away guy to do it. about 65 quid.

i would say go to your local coachbuilder and get a price for a paint job, IME touch up even Scrach and Dent look poor but the latter does look a lot better than joe bloggs doing it.

I have my lower fairing in just now to be painted but it is a friend that's doing it so i'm getting a deal

it does also depend on what you expect.

£65 on a touch up when you could get the full lower done for around £90 seems a bit harsh...then again, at £90 for a respray you could probably get a new'ish panel off ebay!

9 quid off ebay seller 'bikepaintermal' and touch it in yourself. And you don't need primer for a small touch up job, just use 2 thin coats. Don't bother with wet n dry or any of that stuff. Unless your an expert you will make it worse. I've just bought some silver touch up for my k3 for a few spots on the rear grab rail and a few blemishes on the tank and silver frame. I told him what paint I wanted, he sent it the following day and now you could never tell there were any marks. (Unless you are very pedantic and scrutinise the bike very closely)

Less is more in these kind of job's but if you want a perfect job then like the others say get an expert on the case.

I used to work in the car trade and we used to get this guy in to fix marks and damage on paintwork and it was amazing what he could do. He would rub it down, mix up a perfect matching paint, spray it by hand and then use an infra red lamp thing to cure the paint in seconds and when he had finished you couldn't tell there had ever been a paint repair. It was perfect. I once tried to do it myself and copy what he did and I made a right ******** of it. Apparently they take years to get as good as they are. But beware there are **** cowboys and top notch professionals. The trick is choosing the right one.

Hey folks, more thread resurrecting here :oops:. Time is working away at my k3 now so I wanted to touch up the panels. There's a few places on the angles where the blue has gone and left just black. Would the touch up paint from this guy (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Suzuki-SV650-S...item518acabb71) be fine for covering up this? Do I need any base coats or laquers? Thanks for the help!

PS. In the third photo under the 'S' is more of a scratch so would T-cut or something rub this out :confused: Cheers!
