Paddock Stands
 

Hey all,

New to the site - just recently purchased a 04 sv650s as my first bike - lovin it so far :)

I'm currently looking at a front stand for the sv - have seen a bike or two fall off front stands (lucky enough front wheel was still on bike) so I've decided that I want a proper front stand and was looking at the Harris race front under-yoke type paddock stand

Looking on there - there is no option for the SV and when I emailed them - they stated they never tried the stand on an SV so would have to bring the bike around to the factory to try it out - however this isn't possible as I'm based in the west of Ireland.

I was wondering if any of you would know if the "96-05 GSX-R 600/750 B13.2" would fit my SV?

Sorry, don't know the answer to your question but at that money I'd take a look at an Abba stand. Easy to put the bike up on your own, very stable and you can use it to get either wheel off the ground.

Is an abba stand much better then purchasing one of those front stands for general maintenance, etc?

I see with the abba stand - you can get both wheels off also at the same time - handy for getting tyre changes aswell.

What kind of setup would you recommend instead of the front paddock stand above and the rear I was looking at - HARRIS GP STYLE ALUMINIUM BOX SECTION REAR PRONG PADDOCK STAND (FLAT-PACK)

Seeing as you were interested in a stand for a front tyre, have you considered a chock? That way, youd just have to drive into the chock, and itll hold your bike upright from there, rather than have to fit spools. It doesnt lift any tyres off the ground if thats what youre after.

I was kind of after the complete setup to allow me to carry out any maintenance safely (without worrying about the bike falling over) - wheels off for tyre changes, services, bike checks, etc, etc

So basically without actually going out buying a lift - I'm looking for the best options to be able to lift the bike up and carry out any work that is required at any point, be it front and back paddock stands, abba stand with front lift (think this works out the same as what I was looking at from harris). An option that is good and sturdy :)

I recently got a front paddock stand, it's not too bad actually, get the back end on a stand (paddock or Abba) and then do the front, but as you are getting the front up tap the brackets with a rubber hammer to make sure they are in postion under and behind the forks and solid as a solid thing.

Perhaps if you have the ability you could make a bracket that could completley cup the bottom of the fork legs but still give you access to the axle/pinch bolts??

Only my personal preference but I've got front and rear paddock stands (micron) plus an Abba stand, so I've got a choice. For any kind of maintenance or wheel removal these days I would use the abba. I now only use the paddock stands when I'm washing the bike.

I've never had a problem with the paddock stands but the abba is much more stable and I've got a lot of confidence in it.

If I was starting from scratch I would probably only buy the abba stand.

Those Harris stands do look nice though!!

Thanks folks,

I may look into the abba superbike stand with front lift. - Should suffice all my requirements and be sturdy enough to do anything with the bike - from oil changes, tyre changes, maintenance, cleaning, etc.

Just a quick one on the abba stand - is this sufficient enough for say changing the oil? Would you just use the superbike stand, take off the fairings, once you have this done, find a point to lift the front with the front lift and then drain away and change filter? I'm just wondering would it be very cluttered under the bike with this setup for working away, or is it not that bad?

Fine mate, I have found using the Abba stand no different to using a paddock stand, it's take longer to get up but it's alot alot more sturdy
