Just past test advice on bike
 

So I past my bike test today and am looking for a bike to go to work and back in all weather. It about a 20 mile trip. Currently do this on my YBR 125.

I understand the SV would be a good choice and I like the look of the curvy early modal.

I have to sell the 125 (its done 2200miles on a 07) and must be worth about £1200.

Do you think I should look at part exchange and go to a dealer or sell and by privately?

Also which SV would be best? 1/2, full fairing or naked?

Personal taste dictates fsiring choice, there's no straight cut better option.

As for dealer vs private again depends on what deals you are looking at and what is available.

Its personal choice, but............

First big bike I think second hand is better, that way if you do drop it or knock it about, there will be fewer tears than if it was brand spanking.

Private normally gets you more for your money, unless going new.

Fairing wise depends where you are riding I suppose, full fairing will offer better element protection etc. For me, on a motorway I'd want fully faired.

But the YBR i traded a 09 model with 5,000 on it for £1400 quid. Part ex book is £1000 to 1200
Private sale start at £1400 and see if there is any bites.

There will a bit of a market with dealers for yamaha's (due to the extortionate new prices) as the new ybr is about £2400 new

Bear in mind your insurance.It is very much cheaper normally to swap bikes at your renewal time as your insurer will probably refuse to swap bikes on your existing policy.Hence you have to cancel your insurance,get the best part of naff all money back on it,and take a new one out,having failed to obtain a years no claims on your old one.Very expensive and a scam more and more insurers are latching on to.

EXACTLY what happened to my mate. Passed his test, bought a big bike and wanted to get insured, but in doing so had to cancel his original cover, meaning he lost the incomplete years no-claims. :(

Me? I would try and sell the 125 privately.
I would also go for a fully faired model and remove and sell the lowers. Ride a half faired model (the best type) and have a fair few quid from the lowers left over to spend on new tyres or if that isn't essential....fuel/insurance/leathers/helmet :)
