SV650 Stood for 3 years? - What to look for?

Hey need some tip's, off to buy a SV650 (05) as my second big bike. The bike is mint with low mileage.

The owner tells me it has only done 500 miles in 3 years, He says he has replaced the battery three times due to not disconnecting it.

He seem's to have just left it in his fathers garage, Without doing anything.

What should I look for? What will need replacing?

What I can think of:
* The tyres will most likely have flat spots(how bad is this do they need changing or can I live with it).
*Battery may be dead?(again)

Any tip's would be greatly appreciated!

Would you buy a bike that's been stood for three year? I'm going to use the bike as a everyday commuter and am at the top end of my budget so not much left over if things start to go wrong due to it being stood.

many thanks

Personally I would change all fluids. Tyres will be alright for pottering unless they have bad flat spots but I would change them for hooning.

I already have bought in my oil and oil filter as I was expecting to get a sv and got a really good deal from Hein Gericke.

I will change the brake fluid if it feels spongy?

Will the fluid need changing in the shocks? I would like to avoid this at all costs as I did it on my er5 and its a job I hated.

Story of the bike - Did 3800 miles trip round Spain then has stood for 3 years with minimal mileage. so still very very low mileage

chain should be OK as long as its not rusty?

Is it possible the engine may have damage due to lack of use? (sorry novice question)

There's no point changing the shock oil as it's such a POS unit.

The fork oil is like dishwater as standard, that should be alright. Chances are you will need stiffer springs at some point anyway.

Chain should be fine so long as it is well lubed and has not gone stiff. Clean it and lube it.

The engine should be fine so long as the storage has been dry.

Probably a bit late now. But if its been stood for that long you may well find the brakes are seized on. If you can wheel it about to find out that is.

Might have to budget for a caliper strip and clean at the very least. I would have thought.

Id expect the fork seals may start to weep a little or even blow after a little use as they dry out when stood and then can tear on re-use.

Also more important is drain the fuel out and replace with fresh prior to use. Stale old fuel can block injectors and cause problems. Also if the fuel tank was near empty when stood you need to drain the tank and check for any rust spots inside the tank (condensation can form in the tank and cause rust spots hence why its best to store with a full tank).
