How can I fix a captive nut to the side of a radiator?

I need to somehow fix a nut to the side of a radiator. I was thinking a very quick weld would do but have been told it may ruin the rad.

The nut will be to support, not take the weight of, a radiator cowl. There will be a bracket top and bottom but this is for the bolt halfway down.

Would something like araldite on a suitably roughed up surface hold?

Any other ideas?

Thanks.

Liquid metal?

You could braze or silver solder one on, it will be a lot lower temp than weld as long as you make the area spotless it should be ok.
Downside is you need a burner, a pencil torch will keep the heat local.
A couple of good tacks would be enough.
Try the glue first, nothing to lose.

Ooh silver solder. I might just have some of that pre-fluxed stuff. I hear what you're saying about a tack. Could do them one by one with time to cool in between.

Keep 'em coming.

If you do one at a time, just make sure the other side isnt dirty before you start on it, they are notoriously bad to do if the area isnt spotless.

How do you mean other side? I just need to stick a nut to the side of a rad. I can get the rad back to bare metal.

Araldite should work, as long as you leave it 24hrs.

Tell you what I'll try araldite and then if that comes off I'll try silver solder. Like I say it's a support, somewhere for the nut to go and to stop the cowl flopping around.

Thanks fellas. See you all at the AR with my creation hopefully!

I meant if you do two tacks on the same nut but one at a time, you will dirty the area by doing first tack, so will need a quick clean prior to second tack.
Sorry mate for not explaining properly first time ;)
