Buying with no V5 + Tax?
Guys
Bit of advice please. I was supposed to be picking up my bike on Saturday, but the seller has just realised he has lost the MOT + V5 document. The bike is also currently SORN. Before we discuss any further I will state that from my point of view I am 100% happy that this guy and bike are genuine. Top geezer, kept me informed all the way and is as stressed about this as I am. Probably even more so actually! HPI clear and confirmed VIN number matches. MOT is not a problem, easy to get a reprint. So the 2 hurdles are Tax and to get the registered owner to my name, to alleviate his responsibility of the bike. Tax - cant Tax without V5 or the V5 Document Ref Number. He has the SORN reference number but the DLVA wont validate that number becuase its too old. V5 - obviously he can just get a copy sent but I want to pick up the bike on Saturday and the DVLA state it can take up to 4 weeks! Now, on the DVLA website: Quote:
I thought we could both write the letter and send them by recorded delivery at the same time if so...? If that IS the case, then all we need is the V5 document reference number to Tax the bike. Will the DVLA tell him this information? Helppppppppp |
Re: V5 + Tax
I know it when I bought a car and the v5 didnt arrive I filled in a v62 and sent it off with my green slip. The new v5 came back with in 14 days. I did call them up to ask what I could do. Otherwise I believe its 25 quid for a replacement.

Re: V5 + Tax
Use a v62 at the post office, this allows you to tax it and apply for the v5 at the same time. You still need the MOT cert and insurance details to show the clerk though.

Re: V5 + Tax
I think why it takes 4 weeks is you can apply for it and they will write to the previous owner before sending you the new v5. Thus avoiding the 25 quid. On v62 I think you need the green slip. Give them a call.. it didnt take too long to get through

Re: V5 + Tax
You will not be able to tax the bike without either the new owner green slip or the V5.
Unless guy who owns it now, insures it and taxes it online on DVLA site. Even then you can not ride the bike until the disc comes through, think it takes 5 days. |
