Hi all, Im Ady Wilkinson look me up on you tube !, i used to race a Pepsi Cola TLR1000 and raced the Honda CB500's for a while...but im building a curvy SV650 streetfighter to race with ThundersportGB, thought i would say hello and ask for some advice....just rebulit forks 115mm AG Ohlins 10.5nm mm springs and an extra 52.5mm spacer in there...feels pretty good the front end ....rear shock is a CBR600rr item also feels pretty good....what BHP should i be looking at for one of these...been told its got 76bhp ....with TRE, jets, airfilter, 4 deg timing advance...does this sound right ? or just plane stupid

What class you going into? Streetfighter B or GP2/ Minitwins.

Re: Im building a streetfighter race SV650
I doubt it will have 76, think 70 or so.
10.5n/mm springs, that is bloody stiff, you weigh about 20 stone? what cbr shock? I thought they were quite short for the SV, like around 320mm |
Re: Im building a streetfighter race SV650
Street fighter B...yes am 21stone with leathers etc..do you think it will be anygood in this class...as i have no idea !! yep the CBR600RR shock has had some more dog bones made....but they were on it when i bought it....so i would really like to put the standard linkage back on...what should i buy to replace this with out going down the Ohlins route...and it is for racing not the road.....Im from Halifax too, but live in Colne now !!

Re: Im building a streetfighter race SV650
Ohlins for the curvy is not good. I like penskes.
You could use SRAD shock with revalve and heavy spring but it's still nowhere near the quality of penske |
Re: Im building a streetfighter race SV650
Streetfighter B has a 95BHP limit so even with 76 you will be massively dissadvantaged down the straights. Most bikes in that class are old cbr 600's gsxr's and hornets mainly. Hoowever if you are a good rider im sure corner speed with a well set up bike will help take away some of the disadvantage.
When is your first round? |
Re: Im building a streetfighter race SV650
I will be at Cadwell on the 7th and 8th of August...Well i have to say im ace on the brakes and very quick through the corners, thats where i make my places up....have never got past anyone on the straights.....LOL .....have to say was racing th CB500's so no tuning etc...got a few 10th and 11th place finishes out of around 35 plus riders............but i would rather race with quicker riders and come 15th than on a really quick, rule busting bike and win...if you get my drift...it's a great feeling riding as hard as you can...and beating the better bikes, it amazes me when you get behind a quick rider and see how much they brake for corners when there is no need, they slow me up then out pace me down the straights..... No one else rides an sv street fighter in this class...didn't really want to spend a fortune on a shock....raced with hagon road shocks on the CB500 and they were just fine.....so what would be a good swap...GSXR1000 ? if so what year etc..cheers
PS I could also enter it in Mini twins or GP2...I will have a chat with Dave Stewart ..... But it will be my first time racing it at Cadwell so im not going to be flying....well if i stay on it anyway ....pic is of me at Mallory after overtalking a 600 hornet round the outside of Gerrards on a standard CB500 !! http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q...2p6694-1-1.jpg |
Re: Im building a streetfighter race SV650
SRAD is way too soft, 1000s are too short and even softer, ZX6R is too short but little better on spring rate.
SRAD 750 one with revalve and harder spring is what I'd do on budget to fix the most obvious issues with it, or secondhand penske. |
Re: Im building a streetfighter race SV650
Keep an eye out for an SRAD 750 shock / Penske please...need to get the bike sorted in next 2 weeks !! cheers Ady

Re: Im building a streetfighter race SV650
You can race it in GP2 just fine, but because you have fitted a TRE and a 4 degree timing advance it isn't Minitwin Legal.
