Holiday - What would you pack?
 

Hey all. So this Thursday, for the first time ever, I'm gonna be leaving England for more than 3 weeks .

I'm off for for about 10weeks for my elective, Miami, Grenada (3wks) then California (6wks).

I'm ridiculously excited, as have never done anything like this before. Never had to plan what to pack for a 2 month+ holiday. Gonna even have to get a haircut abroad - hilarious.

Apart from the obvious, like phone/money/passport/toiletries etc, is there anything I should remember or consider taking. So far got a little list,

Travel insurance
Camera
Driving license and counterpart
Plug adaptor
Loadsa clothes + one fat suitcase.

Thought about packing the kevlar jeans and a leather jacket if I go out for a quick little ride in California, but I don't think it will be worth lugging it around for 1 month before.

Happy for any other suggestions - I'm sure there must be quite a few things I haven't thought of.

Take half the stuff and twice the money.

Seriously, you wont need "loads of clothes", wash them on the road.
3-5 teeshirts, underwear, etc..etc..
3 pairs of trousers (1 smart pair) /shorts + 1 pair swimmers
A good/smart shirt.
That should have it covered.

Yeh good idea Sudoxe. No point in packing crazy amounts if I eventually have to wash them at some point anyway. That should free up a bit of space.

Teabags - I only drink tea when the red bull has finished the night/morning of an exam.

Scan your vital documents and put them somewhere secure but accessible on the web. I've encrypted mine and e-mailed them to myself before now. My list is:

Passport
Driving license
Travel Insurance details
Travellers Cheque numbers
Credit card numbers and details of how to report them lost

Check the small print on your travel insurance because some of them are limited to 28 days per trip. Remember health care in the US is frighteningly expensive so make sure the limits on your policy are suitable

Less clothes, and use the hotel laundry.

Make sure you have access to enough funds to get home in an emergency.

Other than that bu99er off and enjoy yourself.

Definately photocopy important documents and try to keep them in a different place to the originals. Also leave a set with someone at home so all your details are easily found should you lose everything. I know copies are not legal but they can help.

Baby oil, you never know who you're gonna meet ;-)
