NEW BIKE... and a problem already
I am now the proud owner of an Aprilia RSV 1000, pictures to follow shortly! I've done 500 miles in just under 2 weeks, and very much enjoying the bike. Its incredibly fast, powerful and the handling is brilliant. but..
I've noticed that when at full throttle, usually in the higher gears (although this might be because I dont often hit full throttle in the lower gears...) when it gets into the higher revs (6 or 7k) the revs quickly race round to the redline while the bike stops accelerating, as if I've pulled the clutch in slightly. I would guess that the clutch is worn out? Or could it be something else? Perhaps the clutch requires adjustment. It is hydraulic, and I have no experience of these I'm afraid. Any advice gratefully accepted |
Re: NEW BIKE... and a problem already
The clutch is obviously slipping, and as I recall there's no adjuster as such - as you say the clutch is hydraulic - so the clutch may well be worn, note however that some Aprilias use a vacuum system to imitate the action of a slipper clutch, if this isn't working right I've heard of said clutches doing odd things.

Re: NEW BIKE... and a problem already
Right, I'll get on an RSV forum and see if they are as knowledge about the bike as many people on here are about the SV then! It doesn't feel like the slipper clutch on my bike works anyway, so it could be that which is the problem

Re: NEW BIKE... and a problem already
What year Aprilia is it?
It's common with older models 99-03 (or at least with the Falco - same engine) to experience the clutch to slip when incorrect oil is used (needs 15-50 SEMI synth). These guys should be able to help: http://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/f...splay.php?f=11 |
Re: NEW BIKE... and a problem already
It's a 2000 model, so yes, an older model. I'd be happy if it just required an oil change!

Re: NEW BIKE... and a problem already
Check on the RSV section, but if someone said this about a Falco, I'd tell him to change the oil. I'm using Motul 5100 15w50 and never had a problem.

Re: NEW BIKE... and a problem already
Right, have just registered on the RSV forum, introduced myself and asked about it. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll ring up the dealer than sold me the bike (doing a service just before they gave it to me) and ask them what oil they put in. hopefully they'll know

Re: NEW BIKE... and a problem already
If you recently bought it from a dealer Id take it back and get them to fix it.
