Cant get Neutral while bike is running
Over the few days now my bike is actually rideable, I have noticed that it is neigh on impossible to get Neutral when the bike is running.
Nearly everytime I have stopped to park up I have had to stall the bike intentionally, then it hits Neutral no problems. Something worth mentioning, as I dont know if its related, is that Neutral seems far easier to hit from 2nd than from 1st. So much so 3 times now I have gone to pull away and not realised I hadnt stamped down into 1st but was revving its nuts off in N. Maybe this is just me not being "assertive" enough with the gears though? Clutch biting point is midway out, so I'm assuming that it is adjusted properly and not dragging. |

Re: Cant get Neutral while bike is running
Thanks Geo.
Going from that thread, here is what I have and havent done: Have done oil, very recently (with Rictus's help) - only around 200 miles since. Biting point and clutch in general feels ok now, after all the messing about with it Cleaned the crap from behind the front sprocket cover when I was regreasing the worm drive Chain was also adjusted with Rictus, but have since had new tyres put on...I'll recheck the adjustment Maybe it is my clutch that isnt set up properly. I managed to get it working "ok", but I really dont want to touch it again in case I f it up just before the AR. Perhaps I can get some opinions on my clutch there. |
Re: Cant get Neutral while bike is running
everything I'd think of is in that thread geodude posted the link to.
1: Clean - chain and sprocket (jus cos its good practise to do it) 2: Adjust - squid knows more than most so i dont even need to read his method... it'll be right 3: Oil - flush out the old and in with some new, making sure the levels etc are all good. just top it up if its just been serviced but make sure your checking it correctly (bike vertical not on stand etc). In other words its something and nothing, only natural that you think everything which goes wrong with a new toy means it must be feck'd rarely its the case. |
Re: Cant get Neutral while bike is running
All that has been done only last week, but I'll recheck it all.
Oil filter wasnt changed last time though. I'll see if I can get some time today to pick another one up, if not, I'll have to make do |
Re: Cant get Neutral while bike is running
I cleaned around the selector at the end of the rod (not the footpeg end, the gearbox end) as there was normally a hooooooge buildup of crap and this cleared up any problems I had. However, go with what others also recommend, clean, lube and adjust the chain, fresh oil and filter. £20ish for piece of mind.

Re: Cant get Neutral while bike is running
your engine is fine, don't go messing with it, when I rode it; it went into all gears and neutral without any problem, likewise you chain was correctly adjusted, so unless changed that'll be OK to.

I dont get it, lol. Sometimes I am literally pulling up with my foot as hard as I can and it wont move, even into 2nd. As soon as the engine is cut all feels like it's freed up! Maybe its just me eh!:smt110 |
Re: Cant get Neutral while bike is running
it's possibly it was changed; you should have between 20-30mm freeplay in the long bottom run of the chain, as I said.
although the SV gearbox isn't the best Suzuki ever make, but yours was no worse than most I ridden (and that's a lot), perhaps re-visit the clutch adjustment :smt102, or try getting to the ace a little early and ask someone to have a look at it? if all else fails come find me Friday at site and I'll check it out. Cheers Mark. |
