GSXR600 K7 Broken paddock stand mount.
Hi everyone, just a quick warning if you have a GSXR600 - my brother-in-law was putting his up on a rear paddock stand today, and on the way up he heard something snap and the bike fell off the stand. Luckily his dad happened to be standing next to the bike and was able to catch it before any damage was caused.
He thought the cotton reel broke (R&G), but when they looked it turned out to be the actual part of the swingarm where the reel screws in! Not sure if the reel had been overtightened (or if that would make a difference), or a weak weld, but he's going to take it to the dealer next week to get checked over. If anyone's interested I'll find out what they say, and try to get a picture as well. |

Re: GSXR600 K7 Broken paddock stand mount.
It's not confined to any given model of bike - I've seen it on allsorts.
GSRX600 owners needn't be overly concerned - it's not more common there than elsewhere. |
Re: GSXR600 K7 Broken paddock stand mount.
OK, the story progresses a bit - it turns out that when the bike was going up on the stand they only had one side hooked into the paddock stand. All the weight was one one cotton reel so not really a surprise it broke then - think a bit of embarrasment on his part held back vital details of the story!
Apologies for any undue worry caused! |
