Giving up!!

No I am not giving up riding or feeling suicidal!!

I have finally decided that I am giving up smoking.

I've worked out that I have been a smoker for at least 24 years (yes I started young) and have tried to give up a couple of times before but never been fully committed if i am honest.

As I am away with work at the moment I thought it would be the perfect opportunity so I went to the Medical Centre yesterday and got myself some patches and a little plastic inhalator thing.

I know that I don't enjoy smoking and it is just a habit and most of the time it is boredom at work so i get out the office (regularly) to get away from the phone/computer/people.

My daughter always has a go at me as well for smoking and she is 8 years old.

Hopefully by the time i return home in 6 weeks i will be a non smoker!!

Patches worked for me a few years back, but it's all down to will power I think. You really have to want to stop! Put the money you save in a jar, it'll amaze you how quickly it piles up! Then treat yourself, or your daughter of course!

Oh, it might be advisable to stay off the drink for a few weeks too, I still get cravings when I have a few beers!

Best of luck!

+1

Although I've inhaled my parents cigarette smoke for the first 18 years of my life and I still have to put up with people smoking in the job I do.

Good man, just think what you can spend your hard earned cash on instead

I gave up ciggies in jan '09 and defo feel better for it. Agree with the alcohol thing, i still get a craving when having a beer so dont drink much nowadays either (win win!)

I had patches but what really worked most is that when i needed a fag, i got up and did something. Anything. Just kept busy. I realised my smoking was linked to my boredom so stopped being bored. :)

Good luck and stick with it, you can do it!

Well done on deciding to stop. If you are fully committed then bin the silly patches and the fake fag, and go cold turkey. Determination is what will make you give up.

Indeed, I gave up over six years ago. Mind over matter, none of these silly poo poo, slowly slowly things that cost a bomb.

Done and dusted, I've never wanted a fag since, these days I can't help but choke on other peoples smoke, can smell it 100 metres away.

Well done for getting up and doing...Heston;)
