Exhaust gaskets

I've noticed what sounds very much like an exhaust leak from the from cylinder when the engine is hot on my K5 650, so whilst the forks were off I removed the front header pipe. After spending ages working the stupid socket headed bolts holding the exhaust flange to the cylinder head to and fro to ensure they didn't snap (why didn't Suzuki use studs?) I found there doesn't appear to be any kind of sealing gasket between header pipe and cylinder head, is this correct? Most bikes I have worked on in the past use the copper rings for sealing.

Re: Exhaust gaskets

Yep, it should have an exhaust gasket, although with all the heat there it does dissapear in the port.

Have a poke around, just to make sure there isn't one there.

Wemoto can supply you with a replacement easy enough

Re: Exhaust gaskets

Seems I was being daft, there was a gasket but a compressed wire type that was so hard and black I thought it was part of the exhaust port! All replaced now, and gave me a chance to clean up the header pipe at the same time.
