Clutch slip.
Ive recently come bk from a tour around France which was amazing but have since realised that my bike is not the same after thrashing it around for a couple of weeks. I am having problems with acceleration, it seems that when i am sitting at 80mph i am revving at about 6000 revs, if i then open up the throttle all the way to overtake, it quickly revs up to 8000 with little change in pace then falls bk down to 7000 and accelerates normally. I have been told this could be to do with the clutch but not sure. Any ideas?

Clutch cables stretch just the same as chains. A little adjustment is probably all that is required is all. :)

surely if the clutch cable stretches he will have trouble disenguaging the clutch, rather than it slipping when its fully out? i may be thinking about this wrong tho...

or details on the 'other' sv forum - or download the manual and use that.
could be as simple as a stretched cable or considering the amount of muck i found on the throttle bodies & behind the sprocket cover it could just be the mechanism needing cleaned and greased. |

If anything cable stretch will cause drag not slip, however a bit of plate wear will cause slip unless the adjustment is correct. Slip can be caused by overtight cable adjustment, but don't just adjust the cable, the clutch adjuster should be attended to first, like this:
