Service Due - Triumph Sprint.

After my trip over the water my 08 sprint is due an 18,000mile service, the cost from triumph is £260, this is for a minor service. Do i take it there or to a non franchised place or something else? but i'll need a stamp in the book won't i?.

Re: Service Due

Is it still covered by Manufacturer's warranty ? If so then yes I would get it done at the main dealer. If not, take it to the non franchised place.

Its what I did with my GSXR. Its of an age now ( 06 reg ) that Full dealer service history isnt going to help that much at resale time hence why I am not to fussed about it. So I take it to the little backstreet garage who still stamp the service book anyway.

Are you still having oil burning issues? If you were, I'd be very tempted to take it to a dealer to ward off any future problems with claims.

Id take it to whoever will do it properly and to schedule. At that mileage and if it hasnt yet been done or not within the past two years, coolant could require replacing and the same with the brake fluid (we have a coolant tester and tester to test the moisture level in the brake fluid, other places should have these too). Possible air filter if you ride in poor weather and same with plugs. All depends on what was done last time and when.

why not just service it yourself? if its only oil plugs and filters and the likes? theres bound to be more than enough guides online to help

Which dealer? My last bill from a Triumph dealer was for £370 for a minor service on my 05 Sprint, and £200 of that was for the TOR exhaust that they fitted. Given a small labour charge for fitting, that would equate to approx £100 difference.

It depends on what they have quoted for. Id agree it would be a strong price for a minor service but they may have factored in plugs, air filter etc if its scheduled to be changed on that service. I dont have a Triumph schedule in front of me so couldnt say for sure exactly what its due and even then you possibly even wouldnt know until its checked.

If you get a quote or estimate you can only compare if you have an exact listing of parts and then make a comparison.

That's quite true. Never hurts to phone around a couple of different dealers/workshops for quotes to compare though. ;)

I'd also recommend Triumph West Yorks for their customer service, and the fact that both times I've been there the bill has been lower than quoted due to parts not being changed unecessarily, or it not taking as long as estimated.

i agree with warren, just note down what mileage you are checking or replacing everything, and with what oil/plugs/filters you are replacing them with and let the new owner know, if you eventually go to re-sell it.
