SV650 rear tyre advice
I recently bought my SV650 K3 2004 naked model and it needs a new rear tyre. I basically have a choice of 4 I can go with from my local tyre place and wanted peoples opinions on them if possible. the front tyre is a bridgestone.
1: Bridgestone BT021 2: Continental sport attack 3: Pirelli Diablo 4: Avon AV56-stm2 i wont be taking it on track days or racing around full throttle everywhere so i want a good lasting tyre. thanks very much, Tim |
Re: SV650 rear tyre advice
I like Avon Storm 2 Ultras, but I've also heard fantastic things about the BT-023.

Re: SV650 rear tyre advice
The Diablo Strada's are being well discounted at the moment as the Angel ST has replced them, but it's still a very decent sports touring tyre.

Re: SV650 rear tyre advice
Have a read of the tyre section here
http://forums.sv650.org/forumdisplay.php?f=138 But basically, any of those will be fine, so pick the one that suits your budget best. Remember ideally you'd pick the one that is the best match for what is currently on the front wheel. I dont like to mix and match brands, so in your shoes I'd be going with the bridgestone to match your existing front tyre. I think though, but I might be wrong that the BT021 has been replaced by the BT023... |
Re: SV650 rear tyre advice
I got Diablos and they ggggreat! Not too expensive either, may all depend on what sort of roads you're on, all mine are twistys. Never have to do Motorways so a softer, stickier, single compound tyre is fine, but if you are loooking at mixed roads including motorways you may want to look at dual compound to combat the wear issue, but these will be a little more expensive.

Re: SV650 rear tyre advice
Is the front nearly done too? I would personally get a new front and rear. For 1) to not mix brands as would not want another bridgestone and 2) having both tyres new on the bike at the same time...
I would probably go with Avon Storms as no-one has a bad thing to say about them (anyone?) I am a noob though so what do I know...@All, do you think getting both tyres at the same time is a good thing or a waste of cash? |
Re: SV650 rear tyre advice
Thanks for all the advice, it has given me a lot to consider. the front tyre has 3 mm on it so i think i might just be safe and go for a pair deal somewhere. Iv read alot of good things on the avon so ill probably go for that one.
thanks again, appritiate that |
Re: SV650 rear tyre advice
timbuk21980, hope you don't mind me asking a few questions off the back of your thread, I figure both of us could do with some answers...
Just saw this on a review site for the Avon Storm, caused by rider, bike or tyre? It is an review from June, has the st2 come out since then? Any weight to the feedback below? Reviewed by Steve 3 Jun 2010 "I use these on a 1200 Triumph Trophy Tourer. I commute and tour on it. I do 10 or 12 K miles per year. I am on my 3rd set of these tyres. These were recommended to me by my local bike fastfit centre when I reqested a good high mileage touring tyre. They are fine to start with but I find that the front does not wear evenly at all. Halfway through the tyre life it begins to feed a wobble through the bars on cornering and it just gets worse towards the end or the tyre life. I have this at the moment with plenty of tread depth left. Maybe it is just the way they wear on my machine but next time Im going to be trying something else" What about Michelin Pilot Road 2's? edit: will look into the existing tyre reviews on here when I get some time, I am assuming the above will be done to death? |
