Yes, it should be open still. Going over the tops or using the Mont Blanc tunnel?

Mont Blanc Tunnel will be open, but you might be unlucky going over the tops. The Stelvio may be closed, as there is already a lot of snow there (see the webcam at the summit here) already. It's been closed in early November the past few years.

The thing to do is check on the day of travel, it may be open - it depends on when the winter arrives.

One thing you may have to consider is local laws on travelling in winter, especially in alpine areas. For instance I know Austria has laws about using winter tyres and carrying snow chains in winter. A friend of mine had to purchase snow chains to go up to a ski resort by car a few years ago, but not sure what country that was in. Your best bet would be to check with the AA/RAC travel services about requirements.

Its never closed for more than a few hours--they have efficient snow clearing but I would recomend a set of chains ,either snow or ice.
I drove back an forth with an artic for 20+ years of winters and probably used chains about six times.
Oct/Nov ice is more likely to be your problem than snow,so good tyres are a must.

The Stelvio is kept open all year? Didn't know that, I thought it was closed for the winter like other high alpine roads, such as the Grossglockner, Col du Galibier etc.
