Broke footrest hanger on my bike :(

Hi All,
Well somehow and i dont know how I broke my bike.
some of you probably noticed that in the wanted forums i've got a post lloking for a footrest hangar, reason:
I was driving home from a mates in Barry on saturday night and after changing gear the whole foot peg, hanger, gear leaver etc literally fell off.
The actuall triangle part snapped just past the 2 bolts that secure it tot eh frame.

I'm looking at a few new ones but need to know a couple of points as well;

1) does this happen often and could there be any ideas what would casue it?
- I've not had any offs recently but there is a rose bush that i keep catching the left hand peg on when putting the bike to bed at night (this is getting removed as it's also scratched the plastics).
2) can my esisting gear change and foot peg be easily unbolted and fitted to a new triangle hanger part?
3) Will the pointy hangars fit on a curvy?
- just incase I cant get a curvy one but am able to get both sides of the pointy ones.
4) does any one have a spare one kicking around for a low price?

Never heard of this before, likely a flawed casting or cracks from a previous off.

Yes you can swap the peg and lever onto a new hangar. 8mm allen head at back of it, use a socket not a key and a vice would help too.

Pointy ones are different.

Thanks YC, Just looked at the Pointy that parks outside my office, the brackets fit much higher on the frame than the Curvy and the fittings for the leavers are different as well.
worth a look regardless.

There is no indication of a previous off on the bike, but that doesnt mean there hasnt been one in it's life i guess as i'm the 5th owner of it.

I'll agree, i've no idea how i managed not to touch the road with my foot when it happened as i was going 40mph+(not too much + though) at the time (40mph limit).
