Time for Chain Lube?
Guys,
I normally re-lube the chain straight away after cleaning but have just cleaned the chain again and wont be riding for at least a few days probably a week or 2 so thought I would lube it when I need to ride. Is leaving the chain un-lubed and unused ok or should you lube straight away as a chain needs to always be lubed? Advice from the oracles always greatly received. Cheers Neil |
Re: Time for Chain Lube?
id lube it now, not that it really matters

Re: Time for Chain Lube?
If you do it sooner rather than later it'll stick better and you can just get on and ride in a couple of weeks. Alternatively you could do it the night before you want to ride it.
Or just 5 minutes before you ride it (but it'll probably fling). Whatever you choose the difference in the chain's lifespan will not be noticeable! Best time to lube a chain if after a ride when the chain's warm and the bike's going to be sat for a bit of time. |

In reality I doubt anyone would ever notice the difference in doing it, but I choose to do it (albeit true or not ...+ it's also the most convenient time to do it). I guess the theory is; a warm chain's moving parts will be fractionally more open then if it were stone cold so in theory lube could work it's way in better, if it's then left for a number of hours, in my mind, it has chance to settle and stick properly and would be less inclined to propel itself at your tyre within 2 minutes. And ,that, is why I typed it your honor :salut: |
Re: Time for Chain Lube?
Best time to lube a chain is little and often.
