Coolant time

Its that time of year again. Just a quick heads up that it may be worth adding coolant to your race bikes system or draining it fully especially if you store the bike somewhere prone to cold.

The SV is very prone to popping its core plugs out on the front cylinder and freezing up.

Generally it doesnt do much more than pop out a core plug. Its quite straight forward to fix unless the core plug has vanished down into the engine and gets munched when the bike is started!. Have seen one with a cracked cylinder which wasnt good. Its more just a PITA as it generally only comes to light when people go to use their bike on a trackday or first meeting of the season!.

Good call, racing is finished. Anti-freeze coolant getting added this weekend.

Last year just for reference, I left a small container of clean water on the bike lift under my bike in storage. Easy to check if there is a light coating of ice the next morning :-)

Bikes being stripped anyway so no rad to put coolant into :)

Good heads up though as I saw two bikes with cracked blocks at the first practice day this year. (pre injection 600's) Very expensive fixes.
