Visor Rain Repellent?
Ive got a Shark lid, the RSI i think it is, anywho, the visor that came with it (well visors, got a tinted one aswell, as you do) had some sort of wax coating on it which made rain bead up and just run off, could see absolutly fine without having to wipe the visor and risk a nice big scratch. Awesome stuff, whatever it was, but like everything its not lasted forever.
I was wondering if there was anything on the market now a days that i can apply to my visors to getting this waxy sort of coating back?? My old man has some stuff for his car called Rain X which works wonders on his car, but its not recommended for visors, so i dont wanna try it and have to buy a new visor. Cheers |
Re: Visor Rain Repellent??
i've been using the halfrods own brand (rain x) one and had no bad effects (yellowing or cracking) you have to keep applying it though.
have heard mr sheen works to. |
Re: Visor Rain Repellent??
Problem with Shark visors, is the coating deteriorates after a while, and you tend to get a cloudy spot right in the middle. Although I love Shark lids, and have always had them, I think the visors are pretty poop...and expensive!

Re: Visor Rain Repellent??
Ive been using Wurth visor rain repellent for years now. Cheap and it works very well even in really heavy rain. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Motorcycle-Wur...item4cf2dd9829
Ive put on an ebay link but you can get it in most bike shops and it lasts ages. |
Re: Visor Rain Repellent??
I've been using Nikwax Visor Proof for the last 6 months or so, and its turned out to be most excellent - a foggy trip over the north yorkshire moors sealed it for me, as I didn't have to wipe once.

Re: Visor Rain Repellent??
I use macguiars detailer. Meant for cars but can use it on anything and causes no damage.
Probably not as good as stuff especially for it but I buy it for motor so its no expense to use on lid. |
Re: Visor Rain Repellent??
cheers people, ill have a look around at the stuff youve recommended, definatly gonna need it for the winter, after my ride home from work today, it would be nice to see properly if its gonna be raining often, and being the uk of course it will

Nikwax visor proof smells coincidentally the same as all other Nikwax fluids, I've always suspected it's the same stuff in different packaging, so, I recently bought a 1 litre TX-Direct Wash-In from VetsUK for about £10, and refilled the original visor proof bottle. It went on a little too thick (required too much work buffing clear) so I diluted 50/50 with water, and IMHO it works exactly the same as the original visor proof. TX-Direct always seems to be a little more expensive that other varieties of Nikwax, I suspect that's because there's more of the 'active' ingredient, and perhaps why it seemed a little thicker. Either way, if you have some Nikwax kicking about for proofing clothing with, give it a shot - much cheaper than buying the smaller bottle. |

Re: Visor Rain Repellent?
I use Clear Vue Rain Repellant- from Halfords. Does a decent job, but needs regular application.
