Carole Nash refuse to insure bikes without lights

Just a warning for any of you that may have an off road/old machine/road legal trackday bike without lights insured with Carole Nash.

A friend of my father who rides in pre-1965 trials with him had Carole Nash refuse to insure his trials bike because it had no lights fitted, and they claimed to have 'Never' insured machines without lights for road use, despite happily taking his money and providing cover for several years previously. His son had the same problem despite being covered by them previously, and sending them photos of his machine for valuation purposes showing it sans lights! His request for a refund was refused, bit ironic as Carole Nash got established providing insurance for vintage/classic bikes (with and without lights).

However both Footman James and Lynbrook will happily cover old machines without lights no problem. I expect the Carole Nash mole will be along soon with excuses. . .

That's utter p!sh. If they have not been covering him (because they say he didn't disclose information and was therefore not insured) what is the premium for?

There has to be consideration on both sides - you pay the premium, they provide the cover. If one of those things doesn't materialise then neither does the other.

That's one of the 7 basic principles of insurance they used to teach back in the days when firms actually trained their employees.

The only reason they wouldn't need to return the premium is if he had a claim paid and that would rather contradict their "no insurance" stance.

Tell him to make a formal complaint - in writing headed "Complaint" just so they understand. A formal complaint at least gets directed to someone who knows their a*** from their elbow. They can refuse cover if they like but I'd be having my premiums back from day one. :smt071

There is a way they could have cancelled and kept the premium but from the sound of it they're saying they've never covered his bike.

It's this kind of nonsense that brings my noble profession into disrepute. :)

Carole Nash were quite happy to take my money and insure my CBR600 tackbike when the list of modifications clearly showed it had no lights, mirrors or indicators and photos showed a race fairing fitted with no provision for a headlight. This was only two years ago.

They are hardly... 'really crap' though are they.

I've been with them for 3 years... they are competitive on price (for me), answer the phone straight away without you being on hold for 30 minutes, importantly you get to speak to someone that can speak good english.

I've never had to claim off them but know of at least 4 that have with no issues at all.

Just insured with them, I dont know what ppl expect of insurers but they have met my criteria so far, like actually battling for my business.

I have been with Carol Nash for 5 years. Never had an issue, and I have a multi bike policy and a very slightly modded SV.

Until you make a claim, it's impossible to rate an insurance company, up until that point they're just a bookies basically.

It's very easy to rate an insurance company before a claim.

AQoute for example, you are on hold for a minimum 20 minutes before you even get to speak to someone... and that's sales so imagine what the Claims Department is like. When you get to speak to someone at AQoute you can't understand a word they say.

Cheap insurance = Cheap product and service.

Again, I've had nothing but good experience with CN in four years of biking.

No reason to change for me- product offering is good and they are very helpful and friendly when you call.
