Changes to Speeding Fines etc.

Not that anyone on here would ever do such a thing . . .
According to details my colleagues have recieved, ACPO have changed there thresholds and have got approval from Central Government as Government want to reduce costs for the CPO (floowing the CSR) , involved in taking speeding offences through court. This is a national approach and the police will be responsible for all speed enforcement come April 1st as the Road SAfety Partnerships go, following the withdrawalal of funding. Thames Valley Road Safety Partnership will be no more come April 1st.

The new guidelines will be Speed Limit + 10% + 3mph, ie up to 80mph in a 70mph, 36mph in a 30mph.

Then between this threshold and (Speed Limit + 10% + 3mph) + 10% , ie 88mph in a 70mph and 40mph in a 30mph, no fixed penalty or points will be issued, but the driver can a take a driver awareness course at a cost of £80. Above this 2nd threshold there are points and fine. The police will take all the revenue from the speed awareness courses, which will be used towards policing following obviously deducting the costs of the courses.

NOTE: this may not apply in Scotland!

Apparently due 1st April next year - or am I an April Fool ?

you mean 2nd limit at 20% + 4mph?

Sounds interesting

Sounds almost feasible... but probably balls.

+33% + 7mph should be the allowance ;)

What evidence?

Not saying it's wrong, just would like to know where the statement comes from.

Pete ;)

Not sure, Stu - ' borrowed ' it from SABRE website.
BUT - 20mph is to become enforceable.

Ah, no, my fault
I was reading it quickly & didn't notice the 2nd "+10%" after the brackets, which was basically the same as I was saying.

i read somewhere that the money going to the police from these fines are there to help pay for the speed cameras that may come under their control. (since the gvmt took the money from the councils the councils all of a suden dont want to run them anymore) the police want to keep them so theyre taking over them and paying for them with the speed awareness courses. to raise the right amount of cash, more people will be elegible for this course out of those getting caught.

whatever the case i think its a good thing.. getting a £60 fine and 3 points for 33 mph stings unfairness as it is.. with this change 36mph and yeah your pushing it and a "warning" if you like with the £80 course (you can only take this once per amount of time, so repeat offenders will get the points). 40 in a 30 zone and theres very little excuse if theres cameras about and you probably deserve to have the points.

This is new information in this this thread, which makes it look as if you too have heard about this somewhere, or know it to be true? What have you heard and where did you hear it? Thanks
