Can you recommend a Battery/charger/optimiser please?

Hi,

Any recommendations please?

My battery seems to be dead so I will need to get another one and would like to get that charged and then have the facility to keep it in good condition. Going for a Yuasa YT12A-BS battery again (That is what was in the bike) unless anyone else knows something better for the same money!

Apart from a very slow (but great) solar panel charger, I do not have anything to charge a new battery with so I can take the opportunity to get a charger/optimiser at the same time. The problem I have is that I will have to run a permanent low voltage cable onto the drive as this is where the bike is kept. I have considered permanently fixing the solar panel on the drive but would like not to fry the battery over time. The bike will have a permanent fly lead connection on the battery to plug into.

Any recommendations from the following please and what model;

Oxford
Ctek
Ring
Halfords
Optimate
Accumate
Wolf

Thanks.

My Optimate is still going strong after 11 years.Slightly dearer than some but worth it IMO.
BTW your bike shouldnt need to live on the charger.I find a charge every couple of weeks is fine to keep the battery happy.

Cheers.

I guess I am a little paranoid as recently the battery has struggled on cold mornings. I have never bothered before but that could be down to having an eight year old battery in the bike! I contract so, weather permitting, I am riding every weekday but when I change jobs this may have to change. Just wanted to cover all the angles with minimum grief.

I have an Oxford Oximiser 900. Wanted an optimate but they didnt have one. It works perfectly and would recommend it.

I have owned two Oxford Optimizers. Note use of past tense.

Finally bought an Optimate. Buy right, buy once.

Another vote for optimate, have two very well used and abused ones.

Cant say that I have tried the others on your list, but very happy with what I have and have no reason or inclination to change.

Accumate. Had mine for 3 years, used daily in this weather especially. Does the job and has never given any problems. It was also Ride recommended over the Optimate in their test some time back.

i've got a few chargers -optimate etc-but the best i've had for the money has been the one from Aldi-does the bike and car and is good at bringing batterys back from the dead-only cost about 8 quid.

Yep. That is the dilemma. In over 3 decades of riding I have never owned a battery conditioner and only one battery charger. If I had under cover storage I would definitely go for a decent one but sitting back now thinking I don't think I would use it enough and, if necessary I could jump that bike off the car. Sleep on it I think but I am erring to cheapish. My shed is full of things that I have only used a couple of times including a compressor and a pneumatic bike lift.

Thanks for all the advice though.
