Is 50k miles too many?

Looking at an 05 Suzuki SV650 as my first bike.

I have seen one advertised but the only issue is the high miles. The salesman has indicated it has a partial service history and plenty of receipts. The bike looks clean with a few scrapes around the ignition, I assume from too many keys and scrapes around the rear grab handles.

However is 50k miles too many?

No mileage is too much............at the right price.

depends on the price-i'd be looking for a 16,000 mile service to be done(valve clearances etc)-your sell on value is gonna be next to nothing but if its cheap enough and your gonna get a warranty why not

How much for this one

50k isn't high miles for a well looked after Sv

However it is higher than average, so depends on the price?

What price?-----provided it has been well maintained, you get some sort of warranty in writing from the dealer and the price reflects the mileage.
Take somebody experienced with mechanical knowledge along to have a look over it beforehand.

DO NOT TAKE THE SALES PERSONS WORD AS GOSPEL

I say the above noting that it is your first bike.

Depends on how much is being asked for it I suppose. Personally I wouldn't have said 50,000 miles was a lot for a modern engine. As long as the rolling gear is in good condition and the engine has been looked after I would have said you ought to get another 50k out of it. Let's face it, you'd expect at least 150,000 from a modern petrol engined car, so why should a bike be any different?

Thanks for the replies

Its priced at a similar price to a 99 bike with much less miles, so essentially am trading miles for age.

I aim to get someone to take a look but wondering if it is worth my while wasting his and my time?

its never a waste getting it checked-it would be a waste if you spent your money on a right pigs ear-mind you'll find bikes that are low mileage but have been ragged rotten and vice versa.
