I assume you mean the Kwak? The V-Strom we are very familiar with.

So who built it?

Im pretty sure it was just a Suzuki rebranded. Why they did/do it? Dunno tbh.

Like the DRZ400/KLX400 and few others they were assembled by Kawa from Suzuki parts under licence. Kawasaki would have built very little of it.

Been going on for a number of years, in the case of the Strom/KLV the Kwak was a better deal, better instruments and a couple of hundred quid less when new.

Kawasaki and Suzuki are by far the smallest volume of the Japanese bike maunfacturers, they did a deal to share some R&D and some model bases in about 2003.

Unfortunately the KLV was only available in colours that no-one in their right mind would buy, which is why it wasn't a huge seller despite the price.

I really liked the V-Strom 1000s I've ridden and would jump at buying a new one if they were still available

Mine was great, big, soft and fast. It had GSXR brakes on to stop it too. But I had to sell it after I fell off it. Never felt right again.
