indicator strange problem

My right rear indicator has stopped working.

I have swapped the bulbs and still the right rear not working so its not that.

I have checked with a volt meter and there is a voltage pulsing between the two terminals as should be, but when the known working bulb is put in there it is not working. Any ideas???

Thanks in advance

i had a problem like this with a daytona i used to have, it turned out it was an earth fault, run a wire from the earth for the light to the battery negative terminal and see if that makes a difference

potentially corrosion on the bulb socket? I've never actually looked at one, but if the voltage is there, unless you've got two duff bulbs, it'd suggest the socket isn't connecting with the bulb properly, if there are spring connections they may now be weakened, or the connection points could just be corroded and needing a clean?

as Dave Mac said if you've got voltage check the earth

Sounds like i will have to check the earth then.

I cleaned the little bit of corrosion out that was there and i know the bulb is ok as it was working in the left indicator.

Thanks for help i'll update when i have had a chance to look

Re: indicator strange problem

if it is a bad earth its a cheap fix, just run a wire to the battery negative

Re: indicator strange problem

Do you mean that putting the leads of your meter into the bulb holder in question gives ~12V?
If yes then the 'earth' (it's a neutral), is not the fault as you must have a neutral connection or you'd get no reading.

Yes. If there's ~12V at the holder but a known working bulb does not light then the holder isn't contacting the bulb.

Ok so i finally managed to get time to look at this yesterday. The fix to the problem was disconnecting a connector that was under the pillion seat, squirting with wd40 and reconnecting. Now works fine.

Not sure if the connector is standard or put in when previous owner installed aftermarket carbon fibre (plastic) indicators. Doesn't really matter, it works now and I was able to ride to work today.

Thanks to all who helped.
