Whistling noise - chain?
Hi. Completely new to biking, just washed the sv and lubed chain for first time. Then while riding after I noticed a strange whistling noise whilst under acceleration. Have searched the thread, and some people suggest degreasing the chain with degreaser before reappliying chain lube, and that failure to do so will mean all sorts of crap on the chain remains there and be the cause of a strange whistling noise. Any thoughts or advice would be most appreciated.

Re: Whistling noise - chain?
Thanks for the replies. You will have to excuse my ignorance. You mention the airbox. Is the whistling noise supposed to be there or is it just one of those things? I take it by airbox you are referring to where the air filter sits. I was considering getting a K&N air filter, so I will have a look when I change it.
Thanks again Scarey |
Re: Whistling noise - chain?
its one of those things, all vehicles have the airbox noise, just cars are dampened as stock. Aftermarket K&N's on cars whine very loudly and high pitched.
What bikes it for? |
Re: Whistling noise - chain?
The only whistling I have ever had on a bike is from my lid , I had a small vent open on my Arai Corsair and was riding to work at around 5am in the Summer , It was Dark . I had something that sounded like the "Dawn Chorus" going on , like a lot of very small birds twittering away . I know it wasn`t them as it was dark . After about 2 minutes I had turned my head to do observations and the whistling stopped . It was then that I realised it was either an open vent or a visor not sealing correctly .
I am not saying this is your problem but it is something to consider and remove from the equation in your search for the errant noise . |
