Engine Rattle
Youtube video I took there ^ was out tinkering at the damn scottoiler that i still cant get to work, when I leant down beside the engine I heard this.... It sounds ok, appart from the very distinctive rattle every few seconds. Should I be alarmed about this? Bikes a K3 sv650s, 31k, serviced every 4k miles from new, only got its second clearance check done there by the dealer I got the bike from at 30k. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2yWWv96DTH8 (same link incase the above doesn't work) |

Re: Engine Rattle
I'm starting to notice this noise on my K3s at the moment.
What's really causing it? Do I need to start looking at a valve check? Only had one done about 6000km's beforehand. Could it be the start of a big end bearing failure? |
Re: Engine Rattle
You'll have seen this on the go just now, no doubt http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=163517
If you want to try to identify where the noise is coming from use the old screwdriver stethoscope method. Touch the tip of a long screwdriver to the engine and listen at the handle. No, really. :) Top end ticks seem to be fine. Knocks and bottom end rumbles, less so. You might have a problem of course - no way I can tell. But if you search on here there's roughly a squillion threads about ticking engines but there's very few "my engine blew up" threads. Most of the engine failures seem to be where the rider has run the engine with low to no oil. Most of those riders are squirrel_hunter. :p |
