Bike trailer buying?

Thinking of getting a trailer for taking to track days etc.

Hoping to find one second hand on ebay but most of them look really tatty. Is there anything I should look out for?? Most of the new ones I see are at least £500, seems a bit steep to me.

Cheers.

Looks like i'll end up getting an Erde trailer. Though not cheap they look like they will take the heaviest of bikes (or 2, depending on which model your after) and last forever. They also look very stable as some ive seen look very thin and ermmm...wobbly.

or find an old basic boat trailer, and a mate with a welder and a couple of extra bits of angle and make one,

Re: Bike Trailer

7x5 trailer with bolt in rails can be used for up to three bikes. You'd also be able to use it for other stuff to justify its existence. 6x whatever is too small lengthwise.

EDIT: removed the word "box" from "box trailer" - it might mean something different to you.

L3nny, bike trailers do tend to go for about 200 quid on ebay, but local classifieds (Loot, etc) may find you one cheaper. I'm looking for one too.

Nice idea. Would a boat trailer have suspension units? Rated at what weight?

I had a boat a few years ago, that didn't have suspension.
Decent boat trailers aren't cheap either.

It would be dead easy to convert one though, I've got some box section and stuff.

Re: Bike trailer buying?

The guy next door offered to make me one on the cheap. He's an engineer and works with metals everyday and has built numerous custom bikes and cars from scratch as well as his own 3 bike trailer. But im such a poof i want one thats built for that purpose so i am not stressing if/when my trumpet or KTM (or both) need to be transported somewhere.

The trailer he made for himself was an old caravan base so is braked with suspension. Although its a good strong trailer its a lil rough around the edges and being the tart that i am it would drive me nuts! :p

I picked one up from eBay for £200, like new, takes 2 bikes. Just keep an eye out, now's the time to be buying as in the summer, they go for silly money.
