My little SV based project
I've been at it for a while now, but its at a stage where it looks like a proper bike and it was wheeled out of the workshop for a few photos earlier today.
So the general idea is take a SV650 as a donor bike, use the great little engine and some of its components, and re-style it into a much more compact, desirable sports bike. Along the way, make some improvements to the performance and handling to make the bike as complete and enjoyable to ride as possible. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_r5ON6ltg7M...all-040210.jpg First stage, get some ideas down on paper. Quite a lot of sketches later and there was a clear direction to take the design forward. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_r5ON6ltg7M...ign+040210.jpg With the sketch stage in process, it was time to get hold of an SV and take some of the critical dimensions. From this, a mock-up of the chassis design could be worked on using CAD. Note the design of a rear swingarm at this stage, something that has since been dropped. http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_r5ON6ltg7M...0/IMG_0116.JPG With the chassis designed, a mock-up needed to be made to fit the engine. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_r5ON6ltg7M...0/IMG_0025.jpg The next stage was to build up the rolling chassis with the new frame and subframe, ready to prepare the bike for clay modeling. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_r5ON6ltg7M...0/IMG_1128.JPG Some months later, the bike finally emerges from the workshop for a few photos. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_r5ON6ltg7M...0/IMG_1129.JPG With the clay modeling process finished, the majority of the design work is complete and its time to start taking some fibreglass molds to make the bodywork. Its still a long way from completion, but its now possible to get a good idea of what the finished bike will look like. Theres a lot more detail about the project to date and other stuff Im working on, on my blog http://moto-rdesign.blogspot.com Arron |

Re: My little SV based project
Absolute respect, well done.
Looking forward to seeing more work :D I could never do clay modeling, always ended up with a ball that looked nothing like I wanted to. BTW what software you using? I'm wanting to do some design work mesen. Cheers |
Re: My little SV based project
Amazing...btw - when you've done the moulds and laid the fairings up, bang me out a set and sort out some fixings for the stock pointy frame...ta ;)

Re: My little SV based project
why did you go with the curvy style frame and not the pointy(obviously you have taste etc)

Re: My little SV based project
Thread subscribed!!!
Keep this you to date mate looks like a epic build. You doing anything fancy with the exhaust? |
Re: My little SV based project
Cool.
IMO do yourself a favour now and ditch the stock front end and rear shock, forget about the standard geometry. When you get them handling sweet the numbers are pretty much a GSXR 600. Otherwise you will need to do that later and you wouldn't want to run into any clearance issues when making it handle as well as it looks. Are you doing the lot yourself? What CAD package? Is this what you do or is it a hobby? |
Re: My little SV based project
looks good so far :)
