Tyre wear indicators?
 

Hi, me again, thought id separate this from my other thread.

I currently have Maxxis Supermaxx tyres and i have found the TWI on the wall of the tyre, just curious as to how I work out when they need changing etc?


Above the TWI there is some sort of symbol on the tyre (only looked quickly in dim lighting...) what exactly am I looking for?

When the top of the treads is flush with the Tyre wear indicators (lumps of rubber between tread patterns)...or more reliably from a legal point of view: when your treads are shallower than 1mm (atleast 3/4 of the way across the tyre)

I shall have a proper look next weekend (I work away from home) and will comment again as I'm a little confused still but only because I haven't looked properly :-/

Pic from a car but same principle. The block of rubber in the middle of the tread should be a step down from the surface of the tread, when the tyre wears down enough (too much) the TWI will be flush with the rest of the tyre.

However don't rely on the TWI being the legal limit. You should have 1mm tread depth across atleast 3/4 of your tyre and all the way round.

Oh didn't realise it was the same as a car, I haven't notices that on my bike tyre, thanks for your help though! I will check asap

By the way it is not the same as a car,car limit it 1.6mm so be careful .If you go on to the motorbike MOT site[don't know the link] YOU WILL GET THE PROPER INFORMATION. 1mm tread on a bike is not a lot on wet roads.
