Re: 98 GSXR600 problem

Someone's probably bypassed everything badly due to a fault in the sidestand cutout circuit.

Bet you 13p you'll find either chockblocks or twist and tape connections in there :-P

Re: 98 GSXR600 electrical problem.

Chris is very probably bang on the money.
First check the clutch switch is fitted and connected, if it is then the stand switch may have been bypassed/removed, further on from that the starter lockout/ignition cut-out sytem may have been disabled at source so the switches will be irrelevant.
The kill switch and clutch switch are not directly connected together so there may be more than one episode of bodginess in the bike's past.

there is lots of electrical tape on the loom, clutch switch is fitted and working, side stand switch is present but not tested yet, what does the kill switch do, as in how does it kill the engine?

Re: 98 GSXR600 electrical problem.

The kill switch cuts the circuit to the ignition system and starter switch.

All well and good asking here but TBH you need a wiring diagram and to be able to follow it. I would advise getting one before you go any further.
