How to change my gear lever?
As title says, I need to change my gear lever.
I don't want to pay a garage £££££ for a few minutes job, I'd rather spend days on it myself and learn how to do it. Which brings me to ask, is it an easy DIY job? how would I go around doing it on my 07 sv650s k6? Also if anyone knows where I can get a gear lever that would be great - On ebay they're going for around £25 but being shipped from Taiwan :\ Thanks |
Re: Need to change my gear lever.
It's a very simple job, you can hardly go wrong to be honest. The gear lever is held onto the footpeg assembly by a circlip, and the rod-end on the linkage that connects the lever to the gearbox is screwed into the gear lever. You will need circlip pliers (you can do it with small screwdriver etc. but you risk firing the circlip somewhere you'll never find it) and a suitable sized spanner for the rod end. Grease the pivot before fitting the new lever. A 5 minute job, literally.
Note that the aftermarket gear levers tend to have a folding alloy peg, which is good in that it will fold instead of snap if dropped, but from some peoples experience they tend to scuff up your boots compared to the standard rubber covered peg. |

I had a look at it yesterday and I saw that circle thing you were talking about, so it's just a matter of taking that of and it's simple after that! Thanks a lot buddy. |

They're called cir-clips.

Re: How to change my gear lever?
I found riding on diesel through Wakefield in the rain to be very effective at removing the gear lever! (and left footrest, indicator and some bones in my elbow & hand!)

Re: How to change my gear lever?
Stay away from the folding metal levers, I've got one and it eats through the sole on your boots and leaves a silvey mark on the top. Instead Hayabusa levers are supposed to fit, so I'm gonna be getting one of them soon to save my new Sidis :D
