On a semi serious note - I have bought the wrong bike
 

Quandries....

I bought the ST2 in December last year with the full intention of going touring this year and making it a bike year.

It has been fettled and tweaked to an inch of its life and when we finally took it out on Tuesday night it hurt like hell..

I didn't think about it but since my last one I broke my right hand and the bones at the base of my thumb and anything more than an hour I'm in real pain, I can get 12 mm risers but I don't think that will be enough to relieve the pain. any more and Ill end up cutting fairing etc etc..

The seat is a nightmare for me now, I don't rememberer the last one being so bad, I can get it sorted for £100 but that wont relieve the thumb pain..and if anything could make the riding position more sporty..

with the first trip planned in April do I just except £500 knock on the px price against something more suitable or throw £200 at trying to get this ducati ready to rock and roll but potentially fail?

Sounds like a similar thing to me. I did my hand in playing football and I now get pains in my left wrist, it ends up that I get pins and needles in my two smallest fingers and that can last for weeks... Can't help you but you have my sympathy.

Your right hand is going to wrap round the throttle no matter which bike so there in lies the problem.It will hopefully get better with time,it took me almost 18 months for my shoulder to recover but as I am probably a lot older it is to be expected.Even now after 3 years it is not 100% but bareable for an hour at a time.-------just have more breaks as it is a shame to loose a bike you obviously love

its the position of gripping as the bars push back into the hand, I didn't notice it on the two hours I had a tiger to play with..

more breaks are an option but with a long way to go I hate stopping all the damn time as it takes forever..

it depends on finding a buyer to be honest, If I waited I would probably get the money back I paid for it but then the bike I want will have been sold as its rare and this one I am looking at is very good VFM.

:( Thumb pain is a horrid thing. I had nasty break of my left thumb a few years ago and couldn't ride for ages. Ended up getting rid of a Z1000 because I couldn't use the clutch despite messing with levers etc. Got a hornet now but still really suffer, and don't ride much these days because of ti. One thing that has helped me a lot is fitting some softer compound bar grips which seems to relieve some of the pressure at the base of the thumb, so could that be worth a try? Even if not on your current bike, it could help on your next one. Good luck :)

cant offer any advice but just feel sorry for ya Alex.. you are a lovely couple you and Cat and to plan all this trip and time together and then this .. it is a shame and not foreseen so not your fault.. but you always wanted that Ducati.. so make it work.

i'd spend the 200, they would be mods most would appreciate if it doesn't work and you have to sell later, if it does, everyones a winner. buying a bike this soon befor your trip could be even more of a disaster, and defo more costly, ps take painkillers with you lol.
