A question to the orgs panle beaters and sprayers

hey

iv been working on my bellypan sanding it down filling it with p38 and sanding it down some more. over and over again. i have also used wet and dry sand paper on it. im now very happy with how it is and would like to primer it and then paint it.

but iv got some questions and would like advice from people that do it every day.

dose the primer have to be a special kind as i normale just use a grey primer.

what sort of paint am i looking at, as i know the paint code is YD8. but is it a Metallic or Pearlescent Paint. also is there any diffrence in how you mix the paint.

at work i spray forklift trucks. ok no car room finish but they look smart no runs and not patchy. but all i do to that paint is thin it down with thiners mix it then away i go spraying. wait for it to dry, job done.

but is that all i have to do to the paint for my bike as i did ask a mate and he said you have to add K2 harderner as well as thiners but then my mate at work said you are not aloud to do this anymore.

also once the paint has dryed do i need to then spray it with clear lacquer or will the finish come from the paint.

any help or advice you can give will be great :)

If you are using a 2k paint, yes you will need to add hardner as well as thinners. Of course you can DIY, but it is not advised if you do not have an air fed mask as it tends to be very nasty.

Personally if you do not know what has been on the panels before, spray an isolator, use plastic primer. And add a flex additive to the paint for the plastics

flex additive ?????

stops teh paint cracking and flaking when the panels move, you will need it for bikes as they flex a lot, especially if the belly pan is fibreglass, it will flex alot with the wind
