What to expect from SV1000?

Im picking up a 03 SV1000s tomoro and im just wondering how the .org would say what its like. I already ride a sv650 but this is going to be my first true big bike. :smt048

Better suspension, bit heavier to flick around

Useful mods are a Power Commander and a remap.

Skip did this to his and it was a big improvement, not so much extra power, but better and smoother fueling

cheers pookie, alot of mixed opinions there, but as you say more noise and power sounds very pleasing :D

maviczap, i am thinking about having a power commander fitted at some point, as you say it improves fueling and i dont want to have another bike that farts flames like november 5th :)

check the hydraulic clutch piston for weeping fluid and rear exhaust pipe gasket as they flake and end up blowing.

Have fun and enjoy :)

Expect your wallet to be lighter because you'll be filling up more often ;) I love mine though.

expect 174 mph going down craignaba (sp)
expect an uncomfortable landing at over a ton but the bike ends up in a better shape than you, good news is you fix for free

Poor fueling as already said, not a massive power increase, increased fuel costs, heavier bike but better suspention.

Oh, and its a twin.

Had mine just under a month & I would agree with the above. Sups juice like it's going out of fashion, even in the wet weather I was only getting about 34 mpg (dreading it now the sun is out).
The engine feels very agricultural at around 3-4000 rpm (feels like it's got a massive flat spot) but above that it pulls like a train & is quite addictive :) & has been said before, check the rear exhaust gasket, mine was totally obliterated & made the engine misfire like mad.
1st proper dry morning on the way to work this morning & I love the handling, suspension seems well set up, so no complaints there.

On the plus side, mine has done nearly 50000 miles & seems fine other than the alternator cover leaking a bit of oil
