Fitting a ZX10 06 shock to a Curvy
 

Just finished! :)

The standard red spring is pants and completely wrong (because this shock is usually for the pointies :) ) so we stripped the spring off the old Curvy spring and fitted that to the ZX10 shock. The yellow spring looks better anyway because its a yellow bike :)

Only thing that needed changing was the 1st preload collar at the top needs fitting the other way around.

Battery tray cut as usual.

Job jobbed and its incredible how easy this was to do for the performance of the shock now.

Settings for preload and rebound are 3.5 out and 2.5 turns out respectively (but these may change once he's rode the bike).

Must be my weight, but I find the red spring on my ZX shock spot on. I am a big fat begger though :)

As far as I was aware the 06 ZX10 shock was always for the Curvy's. The spring rate is far too high for pointies. The curvy spring you put on that shock is 30lbs/ft softer than the ZX10 spring.

If memory serves me right the curvy is 510 and the 06 ZX10r is 540.

This was all from back when I swapped mine over so my memory is a wee bit hazy on the subject.

We googled this for an hour this morning. The ZX10 06 shock has a 465lb/in spring. Wayyyy to soft for the curvy, just about right for the pointy (relatively speaking)

Ah yeah I remember now they changed the spring rate in 06. 04-05 was 540 or summat. I had the 05 version. Apologies carry on.

Yep, they changed spring rates all over the place for them. The 05 shock has an angled reservoir on the top. The 06/07 shock has a perpendicular reservoir.

I also had to dress the shock mounts up very slightly as they were about half a mm too wide for the curvy fittings but its a tiny job on a sanding bent.

With the red spring there was 6cm of sag with all the gubbings off the back of the bike, even when set to max preload. So we whipped it out and fitted the standard curvy spring and it was perfect at 1.5cm with the preload about 3/4 down.

Andy's bike feels bloody excellent now! What a transformation. (he's already done his forks)

Well... Dunno, we couldn't get it to fit :) I had no info on it and didn't want to hack the bike to bits without info.

Was it supposed to go on the horizontal top bars or the diagonal side bars?

Its still a work in progress and may make its way on next week.
