Tip Over Sensor (on track bike)
 

Hey All,

Just a quick question. I know you can fill them with silicon but is it just a case of prying the outside rubber off and hacksawing it open?
Or is there a way to properly disconnect it?

are you having problems with yours Dave?

I did that to my 600 as it was struggling coming out of corners on full lean.

Not done it to the SV yet though.

Surely if it's an unmade circuit until the bike tips then you could just cut the return wire thus just never making the connection?

I've not had a problem with it cutting out or anything whilst on the track (and TBH the only place I've heard of it being a bad thing is the website above) but I have had a few problem running a non standard battery box, trying to store all the wiring loom and where I can mount the tip sensor so it's totally secure. I've had it fall a couple of times when I've been working on the bike and it's left me wondering why it won't start.
If it's just a case of undoing 4 screws and filling it with sealent than it's just one less thing to think about.
As far as just cutting the wire, don't think you can do it as it feeds a signal to the ECU even when not activated (60 ohms apprently). Suppose I could just fit a resistor...

All my electrics are now up in the nose cone and my tip over sensor is stuck and tie wrapped to the fairing mount. Mines not going anywhere (now).

Well, I'll hopefully be working on the bike over the easter weekend (weather permitting) so maybe I'll have a look at that while I've got it all stripped. Other alternative was to get a plastic project box, wind all the loom and ECU up in it and mount that to the side of the battery box - hence why I'm looking at sealing the TOS.
Have you got a race loom or the standard? I've also been thinking about a keyless ignition for a while now but can't think of the best place to stick the switch.

why not leave it working and just make sure its securely located? It may just save your engine in a crash, perhaps even one of your limbs if the bike gets too close for comfort.

True. I'll see how well I get it all packed in the project box and make sure it's all secured properly...

Doesn't sound from anyone on here that it's ever been seen as a problem. I think I worry about things too much!

Id not run a bike without a tip over switch. Two reasons, if it runs on its side for too long it is not good for the engine and you can do some serious internal damage. Secondly if for any reason the tank becomes dislodged the pumps on the injectors can keep pumping fuel through especially if the throttle is wedged open. A real fire risk.
