Take a look in the for sale section, for £1500 I would say your looking at a curvey, but you should be able to get one in reasonable nick......SV650 make excellent first bikes btw :)

MCN has got what it claims to be an SV650 buying guide at the mo, it's somewhat rubs though. You could read it in the shop if you don't want to buy it - theres a few for sale in the classifieds though

Sounds exactly like me lol! Don't think you can go wrong with SVs really as a first bike, one I'm considering anyway. Happy shopping!

Sv is was my first bike since passing my test in feb, use it to run to collage and back several times a day, then nice trips to wales on the weekends, does it all well! Even taking it to italy in the coming months! Great all rounder.

You cant beat the SV for a first big bike, i got mine after riding a 125 for 2 years and after getting used to having more than a shetland pony for BHP it was a great bike, its does everything IMO twistys, fast lanes, Motorway munching everything. then i got stupid and got the SV1000 because we all know power is everthing......

Dan, my SV is the best bike I've owned. Great to ride in all weathers on all roads and easy to work on with plenty of parts and mods for reasonable prices. How can this many people be wrong?
This was posted earlier - worth a look and welcome.
