Only way I could think of would be to get rid of the airbox and modify the tank to not have the big hollow in it that it currently does to fit around the airbox. I am sure someone will be along with a better solution in a bit :) |
Re: 24 litre tank
Yeah that would be my thoughts too.
Maybe if you were running pod filters you could route air in from sides of tank, perhaps some sort of splitter plate to get cold air. |
Re: 24 litre tank
the top of my airbox is cut off to allow more air around and thats what my thoughts were to get rid of the hollow it doesnt have to be exact on the 24 l but i want to run 2 laps in the novice race without a fuel stop i think it would be touch and go to do this on a standard tank size as the bike is 82 horsepower and really drinks petrol so if it held around 21 -22 l i think i would be ok but would not find out until practice week and i would like to go prepared with a bigger fuel tank but i think that if i could get the bottom out then probably send it to a proper fabrication shop as i think it will probably be brazed rather than welded
cheers |
Re: 24 litre tank
I think it's doable to weld it, but not particularly easy.
Better to get the same bloke to cut it and make the patch IMO. I know Max was at the last race meet is a sheet metalworker who can probably TIG it up. Too thin for my skills. Not sure if he is on here... |
Re: 24 litre tank
cut tank and weld in an extra 4 inch of metal, air box stay the same as important unless high state of tune!! been done on VTR firestorms. other is to weld extra capacity onto top off tank, will look naff but achieve what you require.

Re: 24 litre fuel tank for SV?
what could be an option is run a separate fuel cell.
As the SV tank holds 16ish litres un-fiddled. What could be an option is to run a F800 GS rear subframe, plastics and tank. That would be roughly 16l. This could be an option (not sure if it would be viable) http://www.tenkateracingproducts.com...uel.php?id=310 |
Re: 24 litre fuel tank for SV?
Swap the airbox out for a Conical filter type , then adapt the tank to suit , but make sure that you still have sufficient airflow , I would say a couple of inches would suffice . The tank may have to have to be brazed rather than welded though .... and a pressure test too to make sure all is good . It may be strong enough to hold fuel but you also need to make sure that fuel stays in , in the event of an accident .
