Brake fluid change on Curvy?

Hi, I'm replacing my brake fluid tomorrow as the old stuff is knackered. Just had a look around for the rear reservoir and it's in an awkward place. Does the tail fairing have to be removed to replace brake fluid? How straight forward is it to remove the fairing?

Also, do you need any special tools to replace the brake fluid?

What makes you think the rear fluid is knackered?

It's dark brown, isn't it meant to be clear-ish?

I've lost braking power on all brakes over the last few weeks and my front reservoir has gone way too low, and rear is about to go onto minimum.

I think moisture has got into the fluid since Sept. when it's been unused, and now the moisture has boiled out under braking as I've been riding every day since last wednesday and braking power has been dropping to a point today where I didn't feel comfortable with them, even at town speeds.

No special tools needed.

I know what you mean about the rear res, I stuff a rag round it and use something small to fill it up...I find using the bottle too messy.

Even then I get it everywhere :D

A syringe to fill reservoir is helpful.

If fluid is that colour I would suggest caliper is not far off needing strip and rebuild too. All that water will make them rot and seize.

My neighbour has built race mx bikes for years and he's coming to help me. Hopefully we can strip and rebuild the brakes too. How long does it take roughly to do?

2 hours+ as everything will be seized up.

Any idea of cost? Seals etc?

Seals will probably be fine, it is bolts seizing and pins seizing that will do your head in.

Ahh right, I'll just take the work as it comes. Thanks for the help!
