What bike... Struggling between head and heart.
After my 'bought the wrong bike thread' I have been fortunate enough to sell my Hypermotard pretty quickly, it's an amazing bike but after years on IL4's I was struggling to get used to it's monster vtwin characteristics. I've lost a ton of money on it as I spent a small fortune getting it to an amazing spec so the new owner is getting an unbelievable bargain.
Now im left with two choices, and i really cant decide over the head or heart option. I am enjoying riding on the road less and less at the moment. I've seen some nasty stuff over the last year or two and the congestion and road conditions are increasingly frustrating. (the head) option A, is to buy a K6/K7/K8 GSXR750, spending would be flexible depending on age/mileage/condition. I don't want anything to mint as it's main purpose will be trackdays with the occasional road hoon now and then. Great road bike, great trackbike, always fancied one and I would cover it in crash protection. Or... (the heart) option B, buy a nice new or nearly new repsol fireblade. The problem is I won't dare take it on the track so I'm back in a similar situation as with the hypermotard... With it being to nice and clean to do anything other than casual road riding. Really struggling to decide at the moment, two bikes isn't an option and I wouldn't want that anyway for various reasons :( The other option is have a break altogether for a short while, which is pretty much what I will be doing until I can figure out what to do. |
Re: What bike... Struggling between head and heart.
Why do you think you're gonna bin it on a trackday ?
I know youve crashed once before, but riding hard but sensible on track shouldn't see you crash, many people don't :) I took my sprint on track albeit I'd be gutted if I binned it, I'm gonna buy a track bike at some point though. Get the blade if that's what you want, lifes too short. Go halfs on a track bike with me when I'm ready and store it at mine :) |
Re: What bike... Struggling between head and heart.
Go with your heart, You'll always regret it if you dont.
Saying that, the 750 is a cracking bike. I doubt you'd be disappointed with either. |
Re: What bike... Struggling between head and heart.
Go with your gut feeling, ignore everything anyone suggests on here(apart from me lol), and go for what draws you in you entirely. Take your time to really weigh up the pros and cons, no matter how long it takes.....
End of the day, everyones advice for which of the two to go for, is from what they think would be their preference would be....they ain't you are they! |
Re: What bike... Struggling between head and heart.
If your heart is set on a blade, get one of them but maybe not a nearly new one so you can still track day it?

Every trackday I've done I've gone saying I'll take it easy, but the enjoyment for me is from pushing my boundaries... Which inevitably ends up one way sooner or later. I could afford to fix a gsxr, I couldnt do the same with the latter. |

Go for the gixxer if it allows you to do what you want, track and road. No point buying a blade if you'll want to be on track occasionally but can't bring yourself to risk the bike.

Re: What bike... Struggling between head and heart.
the choice is clear, well the question is anyway, riding....how much do you want to do ? if it's only going to be a little at special times then indulge youself and get a smart bike to make it more special, if on the other hand you enjoy the pleasure of just riding whenever you feel like it, just get a competent bike, plenty out there fit that bill.
I've got the indulges bike, and used it far more than most would have, but haven't even felt the need to remove the cover yet this year, I'm enjoying many mile on the S4 just now and loving it. Cheers Mark. |
Re: What bike... Struggling between head and heart.
Hang on, a K7 GSXR is the CHEAP option?
Tell you what buy a wet, dry and inters GSXR of a bit greater age and get me one while you're at it as you've obviously got too much money. |
