Phone Satnav?
I'm driving (for work) to Kiel, Germany next week and don't have a Europe satnav. I do have a Samsung Galaxy S phone with satnav but it uses a data connection to load directions and I think it needs this to work all the time. I'm not going to pay astronomical roaming charges so would like to know if there is a way this problem. I've tried searching the net but.........
Any advice would be appreciated, I've asked all my friends and family and no-one has Europe maps on their units. |
Re: Phone Satnav???
I "acquired" co-pilot for my desire S, used it for the first time this weekend, because I programmed it to favour minor roads it took me on some huge loops to end up a mile from where I had turned off the major road back again, so I need to fine tune it. It stores the maps on my external card.

Re: Phone Satnav???
Cheers guys but was hoping there would be a way of using what I already have but without the extra cost.

Re: Phone Satnav???
SV not without using data im afraid, and the cost of that would probably be well over a sat nav system

Re: Phone Satnav???
Unless you can use a different SIM card in your phone.
That's what I do when outside the uk but don't use 3g data.but I guess you can find a tarrif that has a good data allowance I'd you search about. |
Re: Phone Satnav???
try downloading tomtom m8. that dont use data just GPS. it only tries to use data to get a quicker fix on your current position.

Re: Phone Satnav???
Cheers all - as I suspected nothing free in this world, despite the adverts saying 'free nav' on the phone. As it's a one time trip for work, I think I'll stick to a trusty map and a few unplanned detours!
